Hosting more skiers than any other resort in New Hampshire, Loon Mountain is comprised of 324 skiable acres and offers 53 scenic trails for all skill levels. There are twelve ski lifts, ranging from a four-passenger gondola, three detachable quad chairs, and one fixed-grip quad chair to three fixed-grip double chairs, one fixed-grip triple chair, and three surface lifts. In addition to its regular ski season, Loon Mountain hosts the finals for the northeast circuit of the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge at the end of March or beginning of April every year. Loon Mountain Cross-Country Skiing.
Discover 12 miles of Nordic trails that make their way along the stunning Pemigewasset River, located on the east side of Loon Mountain. Most of these trails are groomed and tracked, except for steeps which are just groomed. The trailhead is located two miles from the Loon Mountain Adventure Center but there is no parking there. Complimentary shuttles from the Adventure Center are available on the hour from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There are also cross-country workshops offered for beginners and those who are driven to get more glide from their kick. Tubing is located at the Little Sister Chairlift on the east side of the mountain, adjacent to the Octagon Lodge! Both lift-serviced tubing and walk-up tubing are available. Tubes are rented by the hour. Please note: You must be 8 years old or older to use the chairlift for tubing. Only Loon-issued tubes will be allowed on hill. Tubing is continuous from day to night, offering 7 tubing sessions daily! All tubes are steerable and stoppable! Loon also offers a terrific Tot tubing area located at the base of Little Sister. Whether you are just starting out or want to perfect your turns, private lessons are the perfect choice. Up to six people of the same discipline and similar ability will receive one-on-one coaching from a Loon Mountain Ski and Snowboard School instructor. Private lessons are available for all skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels. Lessons range from one to six hours. An experienced children's instructor offers a 45-minute one-on-one lesson for children ages 3 to 7 for skiing, and children ages 4 to 7 for snowboarding. There is no shortage of fun things to do at Loon Mountain in the summer and fall. Take the four-passenger gondola skyride to the top of the mountain for dazzling views. Once at the summit, you'll have the opportunity to explore glacial caves, hike the nature trail, and climb the observation tower. Plus, you can watch local artisans as they create unique crafts. The Summit Cafe overlooking Loon Pond is a delightful spot to enjoy a light bite or full meal. Horseback riding is also a favorite pastime during the summer and fall months at the Equestrian Center, which is nestled in the woods on the east end of Loon Mountain.
